VOLUNTEER FORM
Welcome to the Mayo SPCA Volunteer Team
Thank you for your interest in volunteering with Mayo SPCA. We are delighted that you have chosen to support our animal rescue shelter and help us care for the animals.
Our shelter operates 365 days a year, with two volunteer shifts available each day:
Morning Shift: 10:00am – 1:00pm
Afternoon Shift: 3:00pm – 6:00pm
Shelter Location
The shelter Eircode is F35 WN67.
Please note that the shelter is located outside the town, so volunteers will need to arrange their own transport.
There is a private residence located just before the shelter entrance. Parking is not permitted outside this house.
Dog Area Duties
Volunteers working with dogs may be asked to help with the following tasks:
- Cleaning, sweeping, disinfecting and mopping kennels and outdoor yards
- Walking puppies and dogs
- Helping dogs and puppies play, exercise and socialise
- Washing dishes and laundry
- Replenishing items needed in the kennels, as required
Cat Area Duties
Volunteers working with cats may be asked to help with the following tasks:
- Cleaning litter trays and cat areas
- Helping kittens and cats socialise
- Replenishing food, litter, wipes, disinfectant and newspaper in each area
- Washing dishes and laundry
Children
Children aged over 10 and under 16 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian at all times while volunteering at the shelter.
Shift Requirements
Volunteers are required to complete at least one shift per week, or one shift every second week, at the shelter.
Please remember to sign in at the start of your shift and sign out at the end of your shift with Marian or Breege.
If you are unable to attend a shift you have been rostered for, please message The Shift WhatsApp Group as soon as possible. This allows us time to arrange cover and ensure the animals continue to receive the care they need.
WhatsApp Groups
We have two WhatsApp groups available for volunteers:
Shift WhatsApp Group
This group is used specifically for posting the volunteer roster and checking availability. It helps us make sure we have enough volunteers to cover the work required at the shelter.
General WhatsApp Group
This group is used for sharing general information, updates, photos and other volunteer opportunities. These may include fundraising activities, sharing Mayo SPCA posts, transport requests, TNR updates and other requests for assistance.
The General WhatsApp Group is more informal, and volunteers are welcome to use it to ask questions or request information.
Joining this group is optional.
