One Year Is Long Enough… Meet Zena

For the past year, Zena has watched families come and go, hoping each day that someone might choose her.

This sweet 2-year-old mixed breed girl arrived at the shelter through no fault of her own. Her family loved her dearly but were unable to find pet-friendly accommodation and were heartbroken to leave her behind.

Zena is thought to be a German Shepherd and Border Collie cross, and she has inherited the loyal, people-focused nature these breeds are famous for. She craves companionship, loves affection, and dreams of having someone special to call her own.

She’s a large dog with a gentle, loving personality. Zena enjoys cuddles, has experience living with another dog, and regularly socialises with other large dogs during shelter playdates. She could potentially live with another dog following a suitable introduction.

Because of her shepherd background, Zena can find being left alone difficult and would benefit from an owner who understands the importance of building confidence and maintaining a strong bond. She would be best suited to a home with children over 10 years old as she is a big dog.

Zena is looking for an indoor family home with a secure garden where she can finally relax and belong. A quieter rural environment would suit her best.

Zena has done mantrailing training with Oracle Dogs and regularly goes on playdates with dogs her own size in Woofland dog park.

She has already waited a year. Now all she needs is someone willing to give her a chance.

Zena had a great few days with one of our volenteers recently who had a few days off work. They took her home to give her a break from the kennel life. Here’s what she had to say about Zena:
“She was brilliant all the time and settled quite well, she would play football with my son in the garden and left us alone while we ate, no begging for food at the table, she loved hanging around us while we were doing some DIY in the house, she was very clean in the house and slept in her own bed at night, we really hope Zena will find her forever home soon”.
Zenas ideal home would be with someone who has experience with the shepherd breed, a house with children over 10, this is just due to her size, an active home with a secure garden.
