๐พโ๏ธ Hot Weather Safety for Dogs & Cats โ๏ธ๐พ
When temperatures rise, our furry friends can quickly become overheated. Help keep your pets safe and comfortable during hot weather with these simple tips:
๐๐ Provide Plenty of Fresh Water Make sure clean, cool water is always available both indoors and outdoors.
๐ณ Keep Them Cool Provide shady areas outside and keep pets indoors during the hottest parts of the day.
๐ถ Exercise Smart Walk dogs early in the morning or later in the evening when temperatures are lower. Hot pavements can burn pawsโif it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their feet!
๐๏ธ Stagnant Water In this warm, humid weather to keep your dogs away from stagnant or still water such as lakes, ponds etc. We have heard of green/blue algae being spotted around locally and unfortunately this can be fatal for dogs swimming in it or drinking it.
๐ Never Leave Pets in a Parked Car Even with windows cracked open, temperatures inside a vehicle can become dangerous within minutes.
๐บ Watch for Signs of Heatstroke Look out for excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, difficulty breathing, or collapse. If you notice these signs, move your pet to a cool area and contact a veterinarian immediately.
๐ง Help Them Stay Comfortable Use cooling mats, damp towels, frozen treats, or gentle fans to help your pets beat the heat.
๐ Let’s work together to keep every pet safe, happy, and healthy this summer.
REMEMBER: Never walk your dog in the middle of the day in a heatwave. It can be life threatening to your dog! Walk them early morning or late in the evening, once it is cooled down. If in doubt, don’t take the risk. A dog wont die from not going for a walk but can die from going for a walk in the heat!
