Regulars in the shelter will be very familiar with Marian’s beautiful little dog, Phoebe
14 years ago, Phoebe’s mother, only about the size of a Yorkshire terrier, was brought to the shelter heavily pregnant and at high risk of not making it through giving birth. As it was, she had to have a C section, further increasing her risk.
Many people don’t know a female dog can have pups from different male dogs which is dangerous for some dogs. Another reason to neuter and spay and keep a female in heat strictly indoors and supervised.
Thankfully and against all odds, she gave birth to FIVE puppies and all survived
Phoebe wasn’t well in her first year and as happens with rescue animals, she was “meant” for Marian’s and vice versa. We know that Phoebe’s mother went on to a lovely home in Galway and pictured here are Roxie, Ringo and Grefery.
Very sadly, Grefery (pictured next to Phoebe) passed away two years ago after a full and happy life with the Flynn family who gave him a wonderful home and a lifetime of love. We are very grateful to them
The residents of the shelter, past and present, are are always central in the patchwork of the organisation and revisiting their stories reminds us why we do what we do and why we keep going, even through the tough times. These are the happy little miracles
