Moss, Marley, Max, and Drift came into the shelter at the start of 2025 and each found their forever homes in time.
Moss
In August 2025, Moss was almost 6 months old and in foster care with his brother Drift.
His foster mum Andrea has this to say about him “He is very good on the lead and a good traveller in the car. He is crate trained and house trained apart from at night. He has started basic obedience training and can sit and touch (your hand) and is learning to spin.
He likes to use his nose and has successfully completed Introduction to Mantrailing with
Oracle Dogs
He would also be suitable for agility when he gets older as he is too young for any jumping.
He currently lives with cats and other dogs and gets on well with all of them as well as the people he meets (he is unsure around children). He loves nothing better than racing round the field with his brother and the older dogs.!
Moss is a happy little soul who loves recycling the recycling especially cardboard boxes and plastic bottles (without the tops naturally). He is absolutely delightful and would make a fantastic companion”.
…
In September 2025, at the Scruffs Dog Show Ballyhaunis, Moss won 1st place in the category ‘Dog judge would like to take home’ and 2nd place in the category ”Best in Show
‘
…
In October 2025, Moss’s foster mum Andrea said : ‘Moss had a fantastic day today with Oracle Dogs. He’s embarked on level 2 of his mantrailling journey – first time in an urban environment – and he was a total star
. He didn’t put a paw wrong all day and took each new challenge in his stride. He has the makings of an excellent mantrailling dog and would probably do just as well as a search and rescue dog if someone wanted to do this with him as he loves to have a job to do. He is a fantastic lad who really deserves a forever home where he could dazzle with his skills and loving personality’.
…
In October 2025, Moss was curled up on the sofa next to his surrogate mam Izzy
Andrea wrote:
For reasons I really can’t fathom my lovely foster pup Moss is still waiting for his forever home. He is an absolutely brilliant little man, very intelligent and quick on the uptake.
Moss has attended puppy classes at
G-Dog Training and can sit, spin and touch your hand on command. His recall is good though we’re still working on his loose lead walking. He responds best to positive gentle handling.
Moss will complete his Level 1 mantrailling with
Oracle Dogs in the next couple of weeks – he absolutely adores scent work and would make an excellent mantrailling or scent detection dog if you wanted to pursue this with him. He is also very fast and nimble so would be make a fantastic agility dog.
At home his natural intelligence, inquisitiveness and all round cheekiness shine through. Moss likes to think for himself and can be a tester of boundaries. He was first to work out how to scale the puppy pen and has been known to jump the back door. He is equally happy chasing round the field with his Collie pals or just chilling indoors.’
…
When Moss was around 11 months old in November 2025, Andrea, Moss’s foster mum, said: ‘Bittersweet day yesterday. I took my foster pup.Moss to what I hope will be his forever home. His new owner is a lovely lady who has had Collies before and is committed to helping him reach his full potential. She’s going to continue with his mantrailling – he’s a total natural at it – and may take him to a local shepherding business that teaches people and their dogs to work sheep. He’ll be living in a lovely location just minutes from the Atlantic Ocean – when I left they were just getting ready for a walk along the beach! (Second photo is him after the beach

). Moss has a huge personality and the house feels empty without him even though my own 6 Collies are still here.’

Max
…
In August 2022, at eight months old, a volunteer posted that Max’s first adoption unfortunately did not work out and that he was currently in foster again, ready to be adopted by his forever family. While he was out of the shelter, we learned a number of things about Max:
Max is a very clever dog. He has mastered sit, down, spin and touch on command.
Max travels well in the car and he is currently working on his loose lead walking.
After a little initial wariness Max gets on well with people. He is worried by small children but is fine with older children and teenagers who are respectful towards dogs.
A rural home would suit Max best as he’s not keen on traffic, maybe with another dog for company although he would be just as happy to be the centre of someone’s world as an only dog.
…
Thankfully, Max and his forever family soon found each other, and we received this heartwarming update in October, 2025:
“We are really loving Max. He has settled in so well and has such a lovely personality. He is very happy and so are we. He is picking up new tricks and loves his surroundings. Thank you all!”

Marley
Marley was adopted around summer 2025.
…
Unfortunately in August 2025, a volunteer updated that: ‘Marley’s home did not work out. But now that we know what he really needs to thrive, we are hoping the right person is out there and will see how beautiful this boy is
‘ Marley’s time away from the shelter showed us that: He can live with dog savvy cats. He is happy to share his toys and has no resource guarding issues at all.
He is wary of new people, but if you ignore him and give him space, he usually makes his own way over to say hello. He is gentle and affectionate once he gets to know you.
He LOVES water and walks in the woods. He likes off leash time in a secure garden to sniff, play and just lounge about. A nice quiet rural location where he doesn’t have to encounter too many people when he is out and about.
Marley needs a home with NO children. He is extremely nervous with kids. Even the sound of a childs voice sends him into flight mode and he just wants to get as far away as possible. It would be unfair to expect him to handle what is extremely overwhelming as it could cause a problem where Marley might react out of fear. So it would be best to avoid children as much as possible.
Marley would really really benefit from another dog in the house.
…
Marley was then fostered by volunteer Lucie, who posted: ‘Too funny not to share what character Marley has.
Confiscated from Marley today:
Vegetable knife (again)
My hand brace
A (thankfully sealed) bottle of glue
Television streaming plug
A fake traffic cone
He is in foster and looking for his forever home
‘
…
In October 2025, Marley’s forever family gave us a heartwarming update:
“Marley is settling in great. His tail is wagging all the time he is such a good boy he has made us so happy”
An update that makes every second of animal rescue worthwhile

Drift
…
At six months old, in August 2025, his foster mum Andrea has this to say about him “Drift is a cheeky little man who loves stealing my slippers and shoes – all the while looking as though butter wouldn’t melt in his mouth.
He is an absolute delight and would make a fantastic companion.
He is very good on the lead and a good traveller in the car.
He currently lives with cats and other dogs and gets on well with all of them as well as the people he meets (he is uncertain and unsure around children). He loves nothing better than racing round the field with his brother and the older dogs.!”
Ex mayo_spca doggies Izzy, Drift & Toby came to play with beautiful Moss and Max that are currently looking for their forever homes and needless to say they enjoyed it thoroughly

What a wonderful time we had @wooflanddogpark with our 4 border collie brothers

Moss, Marley, Max (reserved) and Drift (adopted) all had the wettest and wildest adventure. The time flew despite the rain and it was an absolute JOY to see them just be dogs

We cannot put into words how happy we were to just watch them run, jump, sniff, play and simply be free. They all behaved beautifully. Not a single bark or squabble. They will all make the most wonderful pets

As always ….. we are so grateful to be able to bring our dogs to @wooflanddogpark and to have it located so close to our rescue centre.

Happy first birthday to my Mayo Society For Prevention of Cruelty to Animals MSPCA LTD boy Drift and his brothers Moss, Max and Marley now living their best life in their forever homes
(December, 2025).
…
Andrea said in February 2026: ‘Happy gotcha day to Drift, the youngest member of my pack. A year ago today I began fostering Drift and his brother Moss for Mayo Society For Prevention of Cruelty to Animals MSPCA LTD. Moss has since found his forever home on Achill with a lovely lady. The brothers meet up every couple of weeks at Woofland dog park for a couple of hours of brotherly fun as well as joining up for mantrailling with Oracle Dogs. Many thanks to Marian Biesty for allowing me to adopt this wonderful boy as well as my other Mayo SPCA Collies Izzy and Toby.’
