You would hardly think this is the same dog. Candy, when she first arrived, completely shut down, convinced that the world and humans in particular, had nothing to offer her but more pain and hardship:(
The difference in her today is thanks to volunteers who sat with her, never forced her to interact but let her know, by their presence, that they cared. Volunteers celebrated her every little step towards interaction, interest in her surroundings and enjoyment in life.
This is the difference you can make by volunteering with us.
Our wonderful volunteer Vinnie sums it up beautifully:
“Today on a lovely sunny morning I got to walk the beautiful Candy for the first time (I know a lot of you have walked her but it’s a first for me) walking down the road I couldn’t help remembering the poor shut down frightened little girl that arrived at the shelter almost a year ago. So many people have invested so much time in this lady and it’s fabulous to see her making progress. Without a doubt my best day ever at the shelter. I guess this is why we volunteer.
